Floating Offshore Wind 2026 – The National Decommissioning Centre

The National Decommissioning Centre is exhibiting at stand K31 at Floating Offshore Wind 2026 at the P&J Live, Aberdeen (7 – 8 October 2026).

NDC staff and researchers will be available to discuss the NDC’s R&D expertise and advanced facilities, including its marine simulator with capabilities for modelling and testing complex offshore operations.

The NDC supports renewable energy systems development with its marine modelling expertise and simulator facilities. These resources provide a safe, virtual and repeatable environment for testing and derisking new technologies prior to deployment. This capability has been effectively utilised by the renewables sector including small to medium enterprises, micro-companies and the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult in various projects.

A paper analyses how a novel lightweight Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (FOWT) being developed by T-Omega Wind responds in various wave conditions, using both the advanced marine simulator at the NDC, and the longest towing tank in Scotland at the Kelvin Hydrodynamic Laboratory (KHL).

Delivering value for offshore renewables

Read an article in the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce November 24 business bulletin for an account of how the National Decommissioning Centre is delivering for the offshore renewables sector. The NDC's modelling expertise and simulation capabilities is the key to this delivery, enabling the virtual trialling/derisking of technologies, optimisation of operations and logistics and enhanced understanding of ecological impacts.

Held over two days at the NDC the Supergen Masterclass on Virtual Prototyping of Offshore Renewable Energy Technologies brought together professionals, researchers and students to explore the future of floating offshore wind operations through advanced simulation and virtual prototyping. A second Masterclass is planned for 2026.
