The NDC hosted the Shell-sponsored Girls in Energy group from Meldrum Academy, providing an introduction to career opportunities in the sector.
During their visit the group heard from NDC researchers about the work at the NDC in collaboration with industry to support decommissioning and renewable energy projects. They experienced a hands-on demonstration of the advanced marine simulator and learned about the specialist testing services utilised by the energy industry and wider sectors.
The group was accompanied by North East Scotland College lecturers Pam Tateson and Emma Wenzel.
Pam added: “The visit gave our S3 students a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the innovative work being carried out to remove offshore infrastructure from the North Sea and around the world.
“Professor Richard Neilson provided a clear and engaging overview of the centre’s work, prompting thoughtful questions from the girls. Dr Alicia Terrero Gonzalez introduced the simulator, where students were thrilled to take control of cranes and tugs while exploring different offshore testing scenarios. In the workshop, they also saw the pressure testing equipment and an advanced laser cutter, with John Polanski explaining the practical applications.
“The girls were inspired by the scale of innovation taking place here in Aberdeenshire and gained valuable insight into the wide range of disciplines and career pathways involved in the energy sector.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone at the NDC for taking the time to host us and for providing such an inspiring and memorable experience.”
